Day 2, MIDEM Net – Cannes, FR

28 01 2008

Absolutely NO time to write, for yesterday was a less productive day in some ways. The night rocked. No internet at the Palais until the afternoon, and by then I was in search of good lectures. Missed the legal Q & A, but got some biz cards, the ‘prize’ in all this. The brief intros. I had a hell of a time giving away CD’s, until I met two British artists for dinner and had a ’sane’ discussion with them about the music biz. Lovely people. Then off to the Hotel Martinez and the Carlton later to hobnob with the CEO of Tag Strategic and the guys from Cherry Lane who gave great advice about the music business and kindly bought me a drink. I ran into a woman I met who does development work with music in Jamaica. She said something about getting out when finding out that ‘Condoleeza Rice’ was her boss. A very, very accomplished and soulful individual. Shines in the crowd. I am most pleased to do dinner with her on Wednesday night. I’ve also impressed a distributor/label/producer??? from Argentina who wants me to work with him on an album. Things at MIDEM move fast and furious. It is an international arena for those who are hungry enough. Over and out. I’m running today. PS. (Add on from the a.m. of Day 1 of MIDEM, the int’l conference now…freakin’ 10,000 people running in every which way…):I met the loveliest woman from Switzerland who is a voice teacher here…for what reason I do not know…but never underestimate the power of the little people. I have a new friend, a place to stay in Switzerland, and a referral as she promised to an appropriate music contact. International music licensing happens in international arenas, clearly. It’s about going where the people ARE, not waiting for them to come to you. That could be true in any context. I’m enjoying the work and the late night parties. I’m into Day 3 now…no time to write.
